The Power of Mantra – a half day course

Mantra means “mind protection”. It is the supreme method to enhance the qualities of our body and mind. For centuries, mantra recitation has been used to attain a peaceful and happy mind by pacifying the negative thoughts that give rise to our suffering.

On this course, Gen Thekchen will explain the meaning of mantra and give instructions on how to combine mantra recitation with breathing meditation. This is a simple and powerful method to attain a calm, controlled and positive mind and is ultimately the cause of the supreme inner peace of enlightenment.

Mala making workshop

Many people find it helpful to have a mala, or set of prayer beads, to use when reciting mantras.  We will send you a video with your booking so you can learn to make your own mala.

You will need some thread, we recommend ‘S-Lon Bead Cord’ the thickness of the thread depends on the size of the hole in the beads you use.
It’s available here as well as other websites, just google it.

Or if you prefer, this  fishing line works well.
Dental floss also works very well!

You will need 104 of the same size beads, we recommend 6mm 0r 8mm, depending on what you prefer, they can also be bigger or smaller, it’s up to you.
You also need 4 marker beads which are larger than the other beads that you have chosen.
Then whatever beads you want to use for your tassel, some people like to use one large bead, or one large and one small. It’s up to you.
You can find all sorts of beads on eBay and other websites.

Finally for the tassel you will need some embroidery thread, at least two colours (even if you only want to use one colour).

You will also need scissors and something to put your beads in, 4 small bowls works well.

This event is taught by Gen Kelsang Thekchen, senior Buddhist Monk and Resident Teacher of Bodhisattva KMC.
