Going Deeper: The Foundation Programme

Foundation Programme (FP) is an ongoing, weekly course on Buddhism and meditation. The course is suitable for anyone with interest in deepening their understanding of Buddhist meditation and wisdom.

The Programme consists of a dynamic combination of teachings, meditation and discussion, all of which enable us to go deeper into the layers of meaning within each book that we study. All of this helps us to make real progress along our spiritual path. Each class consists of preliminary prayers, guided meditation and reading from the book with commentary and discussion.

There are many benefits to joining the Foundation Programme namely:

  • Increased personal insight, wisdom and experience of Dharma (Buddha’s teachings)
  • Studying and meditating more effectively following a specially-designed programme and qualified meditation teacher
  • An opportunity to discuss and ask questions
  • Help, support and friendship from like-minded people

The Book We Are Studying

The Benefits of studying The New Heart of Wisdom

  • Receive profound teachings from Buddha’s heart
  • Understand the relationship between our mind and our world
  • Learn a special method for overcoming difficulties in daily life
  • Remove obstacles to realising our full potential

This book reveals the profound meaning of the very heart of Buddha’s teachings – the Perfection of Wisdom Sutras, showing how we can attain pure, lasting happiness through developing special wisdom and universal compassion.

The author shows how all our problems and suffering come from our ignorance of the nature of things, and how we can abandon this ignorance and come to enjoy pure, lasting happiness through a special wisdom associated with compassion for all living beings.

We will be starting the course with Part 2 of the book which explains the essential meditations that lead us along the stages of the path to Enlightenment.  This is a wonderful opportunity to understand the series of Lamrim meditations that form the core of Kadampa daily practice.

If you would like to buy The New Heart of Wisdom, please visit the Tharpa UK website.
