Understanding Emptiness and Interdependence

Weekend retreat: Meditations on emptiness from the Heart Sutra

Emptiness is the true nature of things.  It means that in truth, nothing exists independently of mind or other things.  Everything exists as a mere appearance totally dependent upon other things . Like a rainbow, things appear to exist independently, but in fact totally depend upon other things to appear.  Buddha compared our reality to illusions, dreams and mirages.  This weekend, Gen Thekchen will explain this profound truth based on the teachings from the Heart Sutra.

The Heart Sutra is the most condensed form of the Perfection of Wisdom Sutras where Buddha Shakyamuni revealed the hidden truth of our self and the world we live in.  Within this sutra is an explanation of the four profundities that help us understand the ultimate nature of things, emptiness, how things conventionally as mere appearance and mere name and how to unite these two truths.

The four profundities are introduced in the Heart Sutra:

“Form is empty, emptiness is form.  Emptiness is not other than form, form also is not other than emptiness.”

During this weekend course, Gen Thekchen will introduce and guide meditations on the four profundities as presented in the commentary to the Heart Sutra, “New Heart of Wisdom” .

Understanding how things really exist, liberates our mind from ignorance which is the source of all our problems and all our delusions.

This is a retreat not to be missed!
