On this special week retreat we will gain practical experience of meditation and how to build the foundation of inner peace within our busy and often stressful lives. The meditations will be steeped in Buddhist wisdom and are perfectly suited to modern life.

Meditation subjects covered on this retreat will include karma, life after death, impermanence, love, compassion and Buddhist wisdom. This retreat is perfect for anyone wishing to deepen their understanding of Buddhist philosophy, the Buddhist way of life, and how to develop a powerful daily meditation practice.

By practising meditation we will learn to control our mind, develop a good heart in daily life, and realise our highest spiritual potential.

The retreat venue

The environment of Bodhisattva KMC is very relaxing and there is plenty of time between retreat sessions to enjoy our café, to meet and chat with other retreaters and the community of Bodhisattva KMC, and to enjoy walking and gentle strolls along the Brighton and Hove sea front and promenade. The peaceful surroundings of Bodhisattva KMC help people to create a comfortable space within their own minds.

Retreat Teacher

Gen Chodor is resident teacher at Bodhisattva KMC (Brighton). He has practised Kadampa Buddhism for many years. He is much loved for his relaxed and gentle nature and teaches with great clarity, insight and wisdom, skilfully guiding people to inner peace and happiness in their lives.

The retreat schedule

The retreat will begin Friday 25th August in the evening at 7.30 pm with an introduction and conclude on Thursday 31st August at 2.00 pm after lunch. There will be four sessions of retreat each day and, to preserve the peaceful experience of the retreat, silence will be observed during the mornings.

The session times will be as follows:

Session 1: 9.00 – 10.15 am (guided session)
Session 2: 11.45 am – 1.00 pm (guided session)
Session 3: 4.30 – 5.30 pm (self guided session)
Session 4: 7.00 – 8.15 pm (guided session)

Each guided session will consist of traditional Buddhist prayers, a short Buddhist teaching to introduce the meditation for the session, and a guided meditation. Retreaters are encouraged to attend whatever sessions they can within their own capacity and in a way that feels comfortable and natural.
